The company is a manufacturer of premium branded products. Almost 100% of our manufacturing takes place in Germany. We set ourselves extremely high quality standards which are applied across every stage of the process from the procurement of raw materials to the completion of the quality products and which also extend to include all materials finishing and processing.
Medima creates a harmony between the importance of angora as a natural raw material and all the company‘s production and management processes by adopting an ecological approach to all its business operations. None of our textile additives contain any formaldehyde or chlorine-based bleaching agents. In addition to this, the fibres we select for our clothing provide a natural and long-lasting soft fit. This means that there is no need for most of the products to be treated with softeners.
Medima also adopts an exemplary approach towards the theme of human ecology (protection of the human body from hazardous substances found in textiles). Our products are regularly tested and certified by outside agencies. These procedures take place in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. All our products have been shown to be ecologically compatible and low in pollutants.
The company continues to come up with unique and exciting product ideas. Its strengths lie in the development of functional clothing (underwear) and in the therapeutic clothing segments, the latter representing mature and extremely varied markets.
Medima has worked hard over a number of decades to establish itself as a strong premium brand which enjoys a high degree of credibility both within the trade and amongst end consumers. Our brand is directly associated with high quality and the sense of well-being our products provide in terms of warmth and health and therapeutic benefits. The positive image we enjoy as a manufacturer of healthy products and functional thermal underwear constitutes an excellent basis for the further expansion of the brand and provides us with opportunities to tap into new product fields.
1931 The idea of manufacturing angora products on an industrial scale emerges.
1932 The company Oberbadische Angorawerke GmbH is founded. The following years see a significant expansion in the company as further production plants are commissioned. Sale and distribution of angora underwear takes place via specialist health retailers.
1953 The name MEDIMA is created (an amalgamation of the German words for "medicine" and "knitwear") and is registered as a trademark three years later.
The figureheads of the brand are the rabbit’s head logo and "Lampi", the Medima cartoon rabbit. These are used for the company’s first radio and television advertising campaign in 1958. Medima reaches brand awareness levels of 83% during periods of the 1960‘s.
Since 1970 Medima products have been available across virtually the whole of Europe as well as in Germany. Advertising campaigns are continued, and the company also succeeds in reaching younger target groups with its sports and children’s underwear.
Further significant expansion takes place during the 1980‘s.
1990 The company is established in its current form as Medima GmbH. Separate health underwear and lingerie business divisions are created. Distribution now takes place via specialist medical and textile retailers.
2001 Peters GmbH assumes responsibility for distribution and production.
2004 A new distribution company is established in the form of Medima Vertriebs GmbH. The aim is to pursue a robust process of development as a health clothing specialist by introducing new collections, new material mixes and new manufacturing technologies.
